Your Door Might Need Repairing

Your Door Might Need Repairing, For many businesses, their industrial site is a central hub of activity where their headquarters are located. Functionality is key when it comes to your business premises and there are many things you can do to ensure a smooth and safe running of day to day business. Doors are particularly important, designed to keep the elements at bay, and provide security for your business, your stock and more importantly for your staff, so for them to be in constant, sufficient working order is imperative.

Whichever doors your business relies on – industrial sliding doors, roller shutters or sectional doors, here are some things to consider that may help you establish if they are in need of repair or maintenance: Your Door Might Need Repairing

What material are they made from?

Most industrial doors are made from steel or UPVC, but if you have wooden doors you will need to pay extra attention to their condition and watch for signs of decay. If your doors are metal, then regularly oiling of the mechanical systems that operate them will keep the action smooth and prevent any seizing, particularly in cold weather. Your doors not only welcome customers in but they are keep intruders out, and their robustness is essential in keeping your premises secure, especially overnight.

Are your doors manual or automatic?

If your doors are automatic or have electronic actions e.g. remote locking, then you must ensure that back up remote locks are available in case one fails, and complete regular electronic safety tests to ensure their smooth operation. Doors with mechanical actions such as rolling grilles must be kept clean and oiled to prevent the mechanisms from rusting or seizing, thus preventing ease of use and compromising security. If you doors are spring-loaded you need to be especially careful as if one of the springs in the pair fails then the spring tension will be lost and the door will not hold steady when lifted. This is a safety hazard to members of staff and customers, so this must be regularly checked and if any wear is noticed replace both springs immediately.

Do your doors make a noise on opening?

If your doors make any unusual noises on opening/closing, such as squeaks, clicks or a stiff / juddering motion these are sure signs that your doors need attention.  This is especially true of automatic doors if they are not operating smoothly or if they are being temperamental. You must address this right away to prevent the door system failing completely thus compromising security and fire safety. Any unusual noises that start suddenly could indicate a fault so get them assessed by an expert right away.

Is your door balanced?

After continual, extensive use your door can begin to fall off balance due to the wear and tear of part of the mechanical structure. This will result in a heavy door that fails to open and close properly and can even cause problems when locking. If an imbalanced door is not repaired promptly it can result in a full door replacement being required.

Are your doors damaged/dented?

Industrial doors are hard wearing and built to sustain heavy workloads, however if they sustain any damage they must be repaired straight away. A panel that has been dented or misshapen is very easy to fix at minimal cost, but more complex industrial doors, particularly those with mechanical or electrical action will require specialized attention. The repair costs will far outweigh the costs of having to replace stock or repair vandal damage if your site is broken into. By also keeping a watchful eye on the condition and operation of your doors they will provide with years of use and uncompromising security for your building.
If you are in any doubt at all about the condition of your industrial doors, Toronto Door Repair provide an industrial door maintenance service and 24 hour repairs. Don’t hesitate to contact us for more details.

Appliance Repair Tips Toronto

Appliance repairs often strike at the most inopportune times. Unfortunately, they can leave a gaping wound in your budget, if you don’t plan for them. Here are a few ideas and tips to consider, that will help ease your next appliance repair problem.

Appliance Repair Tips Toronto

Before You Do It Yourself

Make sure the appliance isn’t covered by a service agreement or warranty. If it’s still covered under warranty, you will need to find out how to use the warranty properly. First call the company offering the warranty and ask them for clarification on using the warranty properly (DO NOT void the warranty by trying to fix the appliance yourself). After that, your next step is to contact (or take) the appliance to an appropriate maintenance or service company. Have them do the repairs under the protective cover of your warranty. Also, you should make sure you are properly reimbursed for all charges after having your appliance repaired.

Do It Yourself

If there is no warranty or coverage on your appliance, your next step is to track down the owner’s manual, and try and make the repair yourself. You shouldn’t repair an appliance without having the service manual with you. When the manual or warranty isn’t an option, your next choice will be to look under the lid, or inside of the appliance, and find the basic instruction guidelines. Most appliances have a small set of operating instructions, printed on the appliance somewhere, which MIGHT help you solve your problem. For most of us, though, these steps probably won’t be enough.

Finding an Appliance Repair Service Company

If you aren’t able to make the repairs yourself quickly and easily, then you will need to find an appliance repair service to do the job right, and get your appliance working again. There are several ways you can find an appliance repair company in your area. You can…

  • Hunt down and dust off that huge yellow pages book, lying somewhere in the dark, outer recesses of your home.
  • Ask a friend or family member who they use for their appliance repairs
  • Visit an online directory, like Yahoo’s ™ yellow pages
  • If you’d like input from an independent source, on reliable local appliance repair companies, call a major real estate firm (in your area) and ask who they use for their appliance repairs.

Appliance Repair Services

A majority of repair companies have technicians available who can repair most household appliances. Major appliance repair companies will typically make service calls to your home. Small appliances often get repaired at the local repair shop, instead of at your home. If it’s a small appliance, you want to make sure they offer repair or replacement services for it. This would include items such as microwave ovens, oven fans, heaters, Kitchen aid ™ mixers, other small miscellaneous kitchen appliances, and maybe even power tools.

Questions to Ask Repair Companies

Once you have the names of a few appliance repair service companies, you may want to ask any or all of these questions when you call…

  1. Ask when the soonest they can come out to make the repair? If the timing is adequate, ask how punctual they are (and if they have a guarantee on the time)? There’s nothing worse than waiting all day for a repair that won’t happen that day.
  2. Ask if they offer a guarantee on their work and their parts?
  3.  Ask about a written estimate; service call charge; fees; or a combination of written estimate with final bill?
  4. Ask if it is possible to add service call fees to your monthly utility bill.
  5. Gas, electrical, radiation, and refrigeration repairs require special considerations. Qualified Repair technicians must have experiences with gas, electrical, and refrigeration issues. When they repair gas appliances and microwave ovens, appliance repair technicians need to be aware of dangers form gas and radiation leaks. When you need to have your stove fixed or your gas lines checked for leaks, you definitely want to call a home appliance repair person for help. Mostly, just make sure they are qualified to fix the specific appliance you need repaired.
  6. If you’re interested, you can ask them if they offer a monthly service plan. Having a consistent appliance repair technician and service can keep your home appliances humming right along, and may also help prevent unwanted breakdowns. This would give you peace of mind for all your major home appliances, and keep all your appliances protected under one convenient repair plan. You can also ask questions, which might include concerns about appliance installation, operation and repair.

Hopefully some of these tips will help ease your next appliance repair problem. Once you have exhausted all of these steps, and if the repair still didn’t work, then it might be time to look into buying the new appliance you’ve been dreaming of. But we’ll cover that in another article.

Understanding South Western Ontario Locksmith

Understanding South Western Ontario Locksmith

I have been a mobile locksmith for the better part of 10 years. I have worked in and alongside all facets of the locksmith industry. Locksmith is a critical trade that is often underrepresented in the trades community, and the people at large. But what is a locksmith, and why is it important to know? As one locksmith I spoke with frankly stated, “a locksmith works with locks.” The essential-ism is quite true, yet fails to engage with the dynamic variety within the industry.

Locksmith comprises specific knowledge and skills designed for maintaining access control.

Access control ensures that those who are allowed entrance to a specific area or building are permitted, while those who are not allowed entrance to a building are denied. Access control is everywhere – be it the locks on your house or store, your vehicle, parkade or gated community. Many locksmiths I have sat down with were either owner and operator of their own business, or they owned a locksmith shop from which they dispatched mobile technicians. Locksmith technicians operate in many forms and often take on a specialized roles in the industry.

Automotive technicians specialize in automobile locks.

For vehicle locks, each year, make, and model often has different internal mechanisms, unique and specific electronic and mechanical hardware. Thus automotive locksmithing has a steep learning curb and requires a large base of specialized tools and knowledge. This work largely involves opening locked cars, cutting specailized keys, and occasionally tearing out steering coloumbs, door panels and reporgraming onboard computers. Most often however, automotive technicians open locked vehicle doors. Automotive technicians often intercede the dealership-client relationship to provide automotive services at a better price and by more reliable technicians.

Another specialized role is the emergency locksmith.

Emergency technicians are on call 24 hours a day. They respond to lockouts, fix break-ins, and repair broken doors. They also engage in basic locksmith work, such as rekeying locks and installing door hardware. Emergency technicians deal with a plethora of moral and ethical crisis. Thus it is important to ensure that your emergency technician be licenced, bonded and insured. Emergency technicians are called in to change the locks when a spouse has been abused. They open the door into grandma’s house when she hasn’t answered the phone in two weeks, and they change the locks on your door when someone you don’t trust has the keys.

Emergency technicians work with people who are scared, angry, and vulnerable and often in conjunction with the police.

A less exciting but equally important aspect of locksmiths is on the commercial industrial side of business. Commercial locksmiths work on construction sites and developing buildings. They install doors and door hardware. They assign master key systems for the building and integrate construction masters for the workers.

Alternatively, locksmiths can reside within pre-existing institutions.

Hospitals, prisons, schoolboards, are examples of institutions which keep full time locksmiths on their payroll. High security specialists work with high-security locks, exclusive keyways, electronic locks and safe work. They control access to highly exclusive areas and possess sensitive knowledge of those areas.

Locksmithing is a vastly growing enterprise.

The need for greater access control rises with new technologies and rising crime rates. I would encourage everyone to become familiar with the locksmiths in your area. It is important to build a repertoire with your local technician. You should always have your locks re keyed when you move into a new building, and any locksmith worth their weight will have great ideas on how to improve your security. Locksmith is often underrepresented in the trades community but they are the most important deterrent between you, your property, and crime.
